Locating your crab trap after you’ve set it can sometimes be a difficult task. Therefore, you’ll definitely want a crab trap float to help you find it once you are ready to pull it back up. In addition, these will also help fellow boaters in the area see your float from a distance and know to keep away to not get caught up in your line.
These floats come in a number of colors though you’ll want a nice, bright one for visibility. Generally, the most popular in the industry are red and white or orange. Once you have your crab trap float, you’ll want to attach it to the trap with a nice, tough rope. I’ll make another post shortly with a guide on how to do this. You’ll also want to put your name and phone number on the float in black permanent marker. Then finally, it’s time to to lower the trap onto the floor of the ocean and let it start collecting crabs for you! Check out the crab trap floats below.
